Market Power in Macroeconomic Models: New Developments
– Earlier work on the market-power foundations of macroeconomics (see Silvestre, Journal of Economic Literature, 1993) adopted static or temporary equilibrium models. This paper surveys the more recent litterature, which is explicitly dynamic (models of overlapping generations, equilibrium fluctuations or neoclassical growth). The issues discussed include: (a) unemployment at low wages; (b) redistributive policies: (c) public expenditures (d ) partial wage indexation, and (e) the equilibrium analysis of economic fluctuations. * J. Therefore, models considering these uncertainties are highly required. Among uncertain variables considered in the medium term generation planning, demand and hyd...

Forecasting with dynamic factor models
The validity of previous findings that dynamic factor models are useful for macroeconomic forecasting is of great importance for subsequent studies which use these models not only as a starting point for further developments but also as a benchmark for the evaluation of the forecasting performance of these further developments. Reanalyzing a standard macroeconomic dataset, we do not find any ev...
